COURSE OVERVIEW
Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR) is designed to help children, adults, and families gain skills to reduce ongoing distress and effectively cope in the weeks and months following a disaster or trauma.
Based on an understanding that disaster survivors will experience a broad range of reactions (physical, psychological, behavioral, spiritual) over differing periods of time, SPR utilizes skill building that are helpful in a variety of post-trauma situations. It can be delivered in a variety of settings (e.g. schools, clinics, hospitals, evacuation centers, homes) and by any trained practitioner (no formal mental health or medical training is needed). Each of the six skills can be covered in one contact or meeting with a survivor.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
In this two-part learning event, you will learn to identify and apply SPR skill sets to:
  • protect the mental health of disaster survivors
  • involve survivors in identifying and addressing their current needs and concerns
  • teach skills to promote the recovery of children, adolescents, adults, and families
  • prevent maladaptive behaviors
At the conclusion of this program, participants will have acquired and practiced SPR skill sets unique to post disaster crisis counseling that include how to identify and prioritize current concerns, build problem-solving skills, schedule and engage in positive activities, promote helpful thinking, rebuild healthy social connections and to manage distressing reactions.
Following the session, you may have the opportunity to sign up for CEU credit? (NOTE: we are only accredited to provide CEU credits to LMFT, LCSW, LEP, and LPCC) – see registration form on EVENTBRITE
