Day 3-12: Future Thinking: Climate Resiliency is Economic and Community Development | Dr. Jonathan Kusel

Climate resiliency is not only an environmental imperative but also a strategic approach that can lead to flourishing economic and thriving communities. By embracing green technologies and adapting to a changing climate, we can foster innovation, attract investments, and enhance the quality of life for residents. This not only protects businesses and industries from costly disruptions but also ensures the well-being and livelihoods of community members.

Dr. Jonathan Kusel directs the Sierra Institute for Community and Environment. The Sierra Institute has been working for 30 years on national, state, and local policy issues related to collaboration and giving rural communities a voice.

Listen to Dr. Kusel’s discussion about the challenging impacts of wildfires; the promising efforts underway to rebuild homes and local infrastructure in a more fire-resistant and sustainable way; and innovative solutions for forest restoration, wood product utilization, job creation, and developing a “circular economy” to support long-term community recovery and resilience.
