Day 1-9: Project: CAMP Care for Children and Families + Resilient Communities | Mikey Latner

Disasters, unfortunately, do not discriminate, and they can strike at any moment, leaving families in dire need of assistance. Therefore, ensuring the safety and well-being of our most vulnerable members—our children— becomes an urgent priority. By offering a safe and supportive environment for children, we can not only alleviate the burden on parents but also contribute to the overall well-being and stability of our community.

Founded by Mikey Latner, Project:CAMP, aims to provide care for children during and after disasters. They do this by organizing childcare and running free camps during disasters when normal childcare services are disrupted. Their tireless efforts not only ensure that children receive the care they need but also create a sense of normalcy and joy in the midst of turmoil.

Listen in as Mikey discusses how adverse childhood experiences like disasters can lead to long-term impacts and how providing structure and relationships for kids can help mitigate these effects, the importance of including childcare in emergency plans and leveraging youth professionals in communities, and how investing in children now through collaboration and planning can build resilience for families and communities facing future disasters.
