Day 2-3: Wildfire Prepared Home: Living with Fire | Alister Watt

Wildfires have become increasingly rampant in recent years, posing a significant threat to our communities and natural environments. As a result, adapting to living with wildfires has become more important than ever. One impactful measure in this regard is the construction of Wildfire Prepared Homes.

The Insurance Institute for Home and Business Safety (IBHS) is a nonprofit organization focused on scientific research and communications. Some of their key works include conducting scientific testing on wildfire mitigation techniques, developing programs to certify homes that meet non-combustible construction and landscaping standards, providing data and insights to insurance companies on effective mitigation actions homeowners can take to reduce fire risk, and promoting policies that enhance community-level wildfire resilience.

Listen in as IBHS Chief Production Officer, Alister Watt, discusses their findings from controlled burns showing how small actions can significantly reduce fire risk, insights about the Wildfire Prepared Home Certification Program, strategies to help make neighborhoods more fire-resilient overall, and more.
