Day 1-2: A Fire Story | Brian Fies
In the face of an unforgiving wildfire, the enormity of destruction and immense human suffering can be overwhelming. Therefore, it is important that we come together to extend our heartfelt support, compassion, and understanding. We may not be able to fully grasp the fear, loss, and uncertainty experienced by those on the frontlines or those displaced from their homes, but we can stand by their side offering comfort, aid, and a sense of solidarity.
Remembering that frightful day, wildfire survivor, Brian Fies, describes the harrowing evacuation as the devastating 2017 Tubbs Fire fire approached his home in the middle of the night. As he reads moving excerpts from his graphic novel “A Fire Story”, he walks us through the experience of helplessly watching everything he held dear consumed by flames and sifting through the remnants of his life in the aftermath.
Listen in as Brian offers insightful perspectives on honoring the memory of those lost, healing through our shared experiences, the power of artistic expression in connecting us with our community in times of profound loss, the benefits of implemented strategies like block captains, and finding hope in the renewal of life even after immense destruction.
